News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Years 7 and 8 students at St Mark’s School in Bath were lucky to be joined by Sophie Kirtley, author of The Wild Way Home, for a writer’s workshop.

Sophie read an extract from her new novel, The Haunting of Fortune Farm, and explained her process for finding names for characters and places. The author and students than talked about spooky locations, very appropriately for this time of year, and created maps of our own spooky places, using real maps to help with naming the locations.

At the end of the session, Sophie signed a copy of her new novel for every student that participated in the workshop, as well as a few for reading prizes later in the year. It was a wonderful way to spend an hour and a fantastic experience to be able to work with a real life author.
