Families across Bath and North East Somerset have found out today which secondary school their child will be starting at in September, with more than 92% having been offered their first choice.
Of the 1797 applications received by Bath & North East Somerset Council for admission into the 2025/2026 academic year, 98.6% received one of their overall preferences.
A first preference school place was offered to 1,665 – 92.7%, with 91 offered a place at their second preference school. Fifteen children received an offer for their third preference and none were offered fourth or fifth preferences.
Twenty-six children have not been offered a place at any of their preferences and have instead been offered a place at their next nearest school with a place available, which is known as a referral.
All Bath and North East Somerset pupils who made an on-time application have been offered a place.
Councillor Paul May, cabinet member for Children’s Services, said, “It’s fantastic to see that 98.6% received one of their overall preferences; this is compared to 96.8% in 2024/25. It is an exciting next step for pupils and their families. I wish our current Year 6 students all the very best in the last few months at primary school before their next adventure.”
