Ian Waller enjoys a tasty treat with an organic meat box from Whaddon Grove Farm
As a family, we’ve been a big fan of veg boxes for the best part of a year or so now, enjoying the ease of having fresh veggies and fruit delivered direct to our doors. Yes, it costs a little more than from the local supermarket, but as well as the ease of having it delivered, it allows us to be safe in the knowledge that the produce is, where possible, locally sourced and organically grown.
Now we’ve branched out a little more and added a rather wonderful suppliers of organic meat boxes to our shopping list. Whaddon Grove Farm is a small family farm in Wiltshire that supplies organic lamb and beef direct to your door, and after trying it out once, we are hooked. Yes, we liked the friendliness of the team there and the fact that the meat box was delivered exactly when we were told that it would turn up. But the best part was the fact that this was quite simply the tastiest lamb that we had ever had. Ever. With bells on.
For our first order we went for a half lamb, which cost around £50 (prices will vary depending on the size of the lamb) and included a whole leg, shoulder, rack and a number of chops, all of which went towards a selection of family meals including a somewhat decadent midweek roast, a gorgeous North-African style roasted shoulder with cous cous and a plate of just the best chops ever. Now while a couple of our children are happy carnivores, the third is far more picky, particularly when it comes to lamb. However, there were no problems here.
For us parents this was a treat – a healthy, organic family meal we could enjoy together with no moaning about what was served up, what a result!
Alongside the half lamb option we went for, you can also order a full lamb, large or small beef box, or a combination of the two.
