Following on from a local gymnastic competition with other Bath and North East Somerset children earlier in the year, Bathford C of E Primary School’s Year 5 and 6 gymnasts attended the Sainsbury’s School Games finals on Wednesday, 28 June.
Hundreds of young people from across the South West demonstrated their sporting skills in the inspirational surroundings of the University of Bath Sports Training Village, as they competed in the School Games. Bathford girls were selected to read the oath at the opening of the games, which was attended by Paralympic swimmer and gold medallist, Stephanie Millward.
Bathford’s Team 1, which consisted of children who do not attend a gymnastic club, came 1st in their group, whilst Team 2, which was made up of children who do attend a gymnastic club, came 6th. In the individual events, Year 6 Niamh Jenkins came 1st on the floor event, followed closely by Year 6 Lauren Booth who came 2nd. Niamh shone again by coming 1st on the vault.
All the girls had an amazing experience and PE teacher, Miss Emily Sturges, couldn’t have been prouder of the girls’ attitude and behaviour throughout the day.
