A new English tutoring service is now available at The Beaufort Bookshop in Larkhall, Bath, for students from Key Stage 2 (Junior School) all the way through to Key Stage 5 (A-Level).
The tutoring is supplied by James Thomas, who has 21 years of English teaching experience, 14 as a Head of Department. James explained, “I offer three hour-long sessions a day from Monday to Friday from 4pm to 7.30pm, with a maximum of five students per session, and the students being grouped by ability level.
“The results my students attained in my last year of teaching this summer were very positive – one boy achieved Grade 9 in both English Language and English Literature, while two students with serious confidence issues predicted Grade 3 at the beginning of Year 11, flourished and gained the Grade 5s they needed to move to the next stage of their education.
“I quickly get to know the strengths and weaknesses of each student I tutor, building confidence and assessing their level of need. I don’t have a ‘one model fits all’ approach to teaching or offer students generic worksheets. It’s good old fashioned instruction, collaboration and skill development and complements the great work teachers are doing in the classroom.”
James added the the cost per student is £20 an hour, with individual one-to-one sessions also available.
