Year 12 Government and Politics students from Hardenhuish School in Chippenham recently enjoyed a trip to the Houses of Parliament in London and the Supreme Court.
As teacher Mr Arkinstall recalls, “Leaving early on a cold January morning is never a choice, but the opportunity to get into London and visit the Supreme Court and Parliament made it worthwhile. This year students of the Year 12 course were shown the court rooms and discussed the processes behind how the Supreme Court works, before heading to Parliament to get a tour of both chambers.
“Local MP Michele Donelan’s aid gave us an excellent tour which was followed by an educational workshop, which consolidated students’ knowledge of the law-making process. We were then able to watch Parliament in session from the public gallery, before heading home.”
Mr Arkinstall added that Michele Donelan is due to come and speak to the Year 12s in the coming weeks to follow up the school’s visit. “Hopefully, the inspiration of this trip will see more Hardenhuish students applying for top jobs within government. Watch this space!”
