While much of the UK shivers in the snow, pupils at Monkton Combe School near Bath are showing there’s still time to enjoy a good read for World Book Day. Children at the Pre-Prep chose suitable frosty titles for the snowy weather and headed out to enjoy their books.
Pupils at the Pre-Prep and Prep Schools are encouraged to read every day, with students at the Prep school having a dedicated reading slot in their daily timetable.
Monkton Combe School Principal, Chris Wheeler, explained, “We’re all huge fans of losing ourselves in a good book at Monkton. It’s vital that children continue to develop critical thinking skills and there’s nothing better than learning while gaining a love of reading come rain, shine or snow.”
The school is celebrating World Book Day with a variety of reading activities and children dressing as their favourite literary characters.
The school, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, has a great tradition for literature with novelist Bernard Cornwell a former pupil.
