Year 3 & 4 pupils from Saltford Primary School recently paid a visit to Brunel’s SS Great Britain in Bristol as part of their Victorian topic. The children took part in different activities including a guided tour of the ship, a walk beneath the ‘glass sea’ in the dry dock, a look around the Dockyard Museum and a chance to experience the recently opened Being Brunel Museum.
Teacher Mr Jenkins commented, “The quality of the tour of the ship was excellent and provided a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience life on-board a ship on a long distant voyage. They really enjoyed and benefitted from the day exploring the world’s first great ocean liner as well as the first to have an iron hull, steam power and a propeller. I would like to thank all the parent helpers who came on the visit and the staff at the SS Great Britain.”
