The Woodlanders outdoor group for for secondary school aged children is returning from 22 September, with the fortnightly sessions taking place on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 12:30.
This successful group, led by PlayWood Forest School & Outdoor Learning, has been running for nearly seven years. The sessions are spent exploring the beautiful valley of Monkton Combe and developing new skills, including learning about wildlife, nature and conservation, photography and map reading, natural crafts, fire lighting and outdoor cooking, games, fun and laughter – and most importantly friendship and conversation.
The ‘skills’ aspect of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards can be achieved through this group.
“The chance to play seems to disappear when children reach secondary school,” said PlayWood Forest School’s Tania Orgill, “So the outdoor environment offers the perfect space for the children to have freedom and be themselves, giving them the chance to unwind and relax or run around in a team game.
“I enjoy my Saturday mornings with this group so much – watching them rise to the challenge of learning new skills, taking control of tasks and leading the group in different activities – as well as falling about laughing as we all enjoy the chance to be open, silly and carefree!
Woodlander sessions cost £15, with a discount when booking all 3 sessions per term – 22 September, 6 & 20 October.
