Pupils from Frogwell Primary School and Complex Needs Resource Base in Chippenham recently took part in singing and signing workshops run by Singing Hands.
The children spent the day with Makaton experts Singing Hands, learning and applying their signing skills through nursery rhymes, songs and stories. At the end of the day, the whole school came together to celebrate the success of the day with shared performances from the children and some pop songs from the latest Singing Hands DVD.
The children at Frogwell School are being taught to use Makaton, a form of signing, to help the development of spoken language. Makaton is extremely flexible as it can be personalised to the individual’s needs and used at a level that is suitable to be inclusive of all children.
This was the third time that Singing Hands have visited Frogwell Primary School and the children really enjoy using the signs and are currently learning some more ready for their Christmas performances.
Suzanne and Debbie from Singing Hands commented, “It makes our hearts burst when we see a mainstream school embracing signing as a whole school; another fabulous day!”
