The Lookout Day Nursery will be opening its doors on 1 September 2020 in the village of Monkton Farleigh on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon, with capacity to look after 24 children.
The nursery, in the grounds of Churchfields The Village School, is a new venture run by Charlotte Forrester, who is eager to let parents know about the service as there are limited options for childcare with an outdoor focus and Forest School ethos in the area. The day nursery focuses strongly on nurturing outdoors activities and the children participate in a wide range of sustainable practices to start children thinking about nature and their environment from an early age.
“As with all day nurseries, we follow the statutory curriculum from the Early Years Foundation Stage,” said Charlotte. “In addition, our passion is to teach children the magical experiences of outdoor play; to explore, climb, splash, create and wonder. At The Lookout, children will be shown to recycle, reuse and upcycle resources, as well as reducing the waste we make. We only use sustainable resources and products. Throughout the year, we will grow our own fruit and vegetables to help children embrace their role in a sustainable future.”
Preparing Safety Procedures
With anxiety high amongst parents with the backdrop of the coronavirus threat, the nursery has developed a number of Safe Operating Procedures in line with Government guidelines, to make the nursery as protected from the virus as possible.
In addition to the Monkton Farleigh nursery, Charlotte and the team have a nursery in Cardiff and family nurseries up the road in Bradford on Avon, in which they have already implemented the procedures.
“We have been very lucky as it has allowed us an opportunity to see the procedures ‘live’ and to observe how the team and children react to the changes. The children are very happy and settled. We have lots of experience operating the safety bubbles whilst still making it fun, exciting and stimulating for our children. It does not detract from the day. For us, learning will always be child led with the emphasis on play, which means it will always be fun and it’s likely to be messy!”
The nursery will care for children aged 0-5 years and will be open from 7:30am till 6.30pm Monday to Friday, offering flexible childcare to suit the needs of each individual family. It will also operate a separate Breakfast, After School and Holiday Club for children from Atworth, Monkton Farleigh and Bathford schools, to help parents manage their family and work life.
