News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Throughout August, Wiltshire Council libraries are encouraging children aged four and over to take part the Silly Season Reading Bingo challenge. There are 12 reading challenges on the bingo sheet, which can be downloaded from the council’s website: www.wiltshire.gov.uk/libraries-childrens-area-summer-reading-challenge.

Challenges include: reading while standing on one leg; choosing three favourite book characters to invite to a party; creating a recipe and making or drawing a book themed cupcake; creating a limerick and reading a silly poem. Children that completing a full house and email it by 31 August to  email hidden; JavaScript is required will be entered into a prize draw to win books.

Children can also still join the national Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge, which is organised by The Reading Agency.

The challenge is being carried out digitally this year, with children being encouraged to join the Silly Squad – a colourful array of cartoon animals. An online platform has been created so families can sign-up safely, create a personal profile, set their own reading goals, view book recommendations and access guides to e-learning.

There is also a forum to chat to friends, play games, download and print activities, as well as family activities with rewards and unlockable content to keep children and families engaged throughout the summer months. The platform is free for children and families to use. For more information, and to get involved, please visit www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.
