A chance to hear young people’s views on the Black Lives Matter movement and what they would like to see happen locally to increase awareness of racism is on offer at a webinar next week.
Black Lives Matter in B&NES is being hosted by Bath & North East Somerset Council on October 19 at 5pm and a number of local young people are taking part as panel members.
The webinar will find out from young people how they are feeling about recent events including George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter movement and racism in our local area. It will also explore what young people would like to see changing in schools, colleges and other settings to raise awareness of racism and how to tackle it to create a more inclusive society.
The webinar will be chaired by Councillor Dine Romero, council Leader, alongside Councillor Kevin Guy, cabinet member for Children’s Services and a panel of young people from Boys in Mind, Black Families Education Support Group, Off The Record and college and university representatives.

“If we are going to tackle racism effectively and promote equality, we need to listen to everyone in our communities,” said Councillor Dine Romero. “I’m delighted to be chairing this webinar and have the chance to hear directly from our young people about the changes they think we should collectively be making in B&NES. However, this event is for adults as well as young people so I’d urge everyone to join the discussion.”
