Sixth Form students at Stonar in Wiltshire have worked tirelessly through unstable times, and today they are deservedly celebrating excellent A Level results with 53% of students achieving A*-A grades, 74% at A*-B and a 100% pass rate.
The success of the students has ensured that 93% have gained their first choice places at university. Seven pupils achieved complete sets of A* and A grades and all of these students have accepted places at Russell Group universities to study courses including Law, Geography, Psychology and Ancient History.
With two A*s and one A, outgoing Head Girl, Chiara Aylett, heads to University College London to study Geography. Chiara has embraced everything Stonar has had to offer. A talented singer and actress she has played main roles in school productions and been a key member of the Chamber Choir. She has represented the school at the Globeducate Academic Olympics and MUN events, as well as hosting Globeducate public speaking events for younger age groups. Chiara is also working towards her Gold D of E and in her spare time has worked in the campaign offices of her local politician.
On receiving her results, Chiara said, “I am absolutely thrilled with my results! But, I owe these grades to my amazing teachers who helped me achieve above and beyond what I thought possible when I started at Stonar in Year 7. My whole year group worked so hard this year and I know our successes are bittersweet as we’ll all miss Stonar terribly. Congratulations, Upper Sixth!”
Jess Fone, Deputy Head Girl, has been at Stonar since Year 7 and has always been fully involved in all aspects of School life. As well as working towards her Gold D of E, she has captained the 1st XI hockey team and has been a key member of instrumental groups as a violinist. Jess is currently working as a health care assistant prior to studying Medicine at university.
Charlotte Bennett, Head of Sixth Form, commented on their achievements: “We are delighted with these exceptional results for all of our students and will follow with interest the next exciting stage in their journeys as they progress to predominantly Russell group universities for a wide range of courses. Congratulations in particular to Grace and Jess who both achieved a full set of A* grades.”
Matthew Way, Headmaster, added, “These exceptional A-level results are the culmination of two years of unprecedented challenges for our students and their teachers. Their success is, therefore, even more remarkable. A Level results mark the moment when our students move on to the next stage of their lives and they do so, not only with excellent exam grades that will give them access to their university courses of choice, but also with values and lessons for life. Recent times have certainly enhanced the students’ resilience and adaptability, but they have also emphasised the care and kindness that is such a feature of our school community.
“It is, therefore, with great pride that we celebrate the achievements of our 2021 leavers as they move on from Stonar.”
