Heywood Prep in Corsham has received ‘Highly Commended’ approval from the Independent Schools Association for Excellence and Innovation in Performing Arts.
This year the judges were looking for schools who go the extra mile in terms of their provision, achievement and teaching techniques. The staff and pupils at Heywood are thrilled to receive this accolade which recognises their hard work and enthusiasm. Head of Music, Angelique Williamson, said, ‘’We are very proud of our incredible pupils who make all our music projects come to life and share their love for music both within the school and the community.”
Music is an intrinsic part of school life at Heywood Prep, and as visitors walk around the school they will hear children singing, playing instruments, taking part in choir practice and receiving one-to-one peripatetic lesson. Children have the opportunity to join four choirs and the school have welcomed Shean Bowers, Assistant Director of Music at Bath Abbey, who will be involved in training some of their young voices.
Other exciting future opportunities at Heywood include: ‘Young Voices’, a full-scale arena concert where Heywood pupils will sing with 5000 children in chorus; performing carols outside Bath Abbey and in local residential homes; and visiting The Netherlands to take part in a musical collaboration.
