News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Heywood Prep was absolutely delighted to extend a warm welcome to Craig Sadler and Stuart Vince, serving firefighters who after overcoming mental health problems, took on the challenge of a lifetime – rowing the vast Atlantic Ocean raising substantial funds for mental health charity Solent Mind and the Fire Fighters charity.

The challenge is known as The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge and is famously known to be the world’s toughest row. Craig and Stuart spoke to the children about their ambitious rowing challenge and how they overcame physical and mental barriers to pursue their goals. They encouraged the children to understand that with determination, a ‘Heywood Habit’, anything is possible.

Heywood children also had the opportunity to get up close and personal with Patience, the rowing boat that took Craig and Stuart on their incredible journey, exploring the vessel and even climbing aboard it!

In an exciting development, Craig and Stuart will be guests at Heywood’s upcoming annual Speech Day where parents, children and our wider school community will have the privilege of hearing first-hand about their extraordinary journey, the challenges they faced, and the lessons they learned along the way.

Heywood would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Craig and Stuart for generously sharing their journey and inspiring our pupils to be determined. We very much look forward to welcoming them again in July.
