News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Come and join the fun at Bath Soft Cheese for Open Farm Sunday on the 9 June from 10am to 4pm and learn more about dairy farming and cheese making. Meet the cows and be taken on a tour of the fields by farmers on a tractor and trailer ride; watch one of our cheese makers, Pad, make mozzarella by hand; and meet the calves in the calf barn.

On Sunday 9 June, farms across Britain will be opening their gates to the public for farming’s annual open day. Open Farm Sunday offers visitors the chance to see farming with nature at first hand, to discover where their food comes from, how it is produced and to meet the people responsible – the farmers! So make a date to visit Bath Soft Cheese!

Open Farm Sunday is a great family day out and offers a unique chance to learn more about all that farmers do, and to show your support for British farming. On the day, the Park Farm owners Hugh and Graham Padfield will be joined by a dozen other local farmers and young farmers to talk to visitors about farming, cheese making and how your food is produced, what farmers are doing to care for the countryside and to answer all of your questions!

There will also be donkey rides, a children’s area including a straw pool and bouncy castle, as well as a farmers market, live music, a bar and hot food stalls. You will be able to get up close to the machinery that is used on the farm at the static machinery display… You might even be allowed to climb up and sit in the cab!

“Farmers are passionate about working with nature to feed the world,” said owner Hugh Padfield. “Open Farm Sunday is a fantastic opportunity for the public to talk to farmers about how they produce food working with nature and farm animals. We will have many farmers and young farmers coming to join us and help us put on a wonderful day for the whole family.

“My family have been farming for over 110 years in Kelston. It’s a privilege to be continuing the tradition but also a challenge. We hope that days like these will strengthen the support of the Great British public for small scale regenerative farms like ours.”
