Staff and students at Kingswood School in Bath are benefitting from regular yoga sessions as a result of Assistant Head of Lower School, Nicola Curtis, training to become an accredited Hatha Yoga teacher with Academy for Yoga Training.
Across the school, almost 500 students from across Years 7, 8, 9 and ten, as well as selected students from Years 11-13, are taking part in the sessions, with the school acutely aware of the ways in which the pandemic may have impacted their young people’s mental health, and how yoga can help with mental wellbeing.
“I don’t think we could have predicted how the pandemic was going to play out in relation to young people’s wellbeing,” said Nicola. “There is a real energy in the school at the moment as we are developing and growing our mental and physical wellbeing framework. I truly believe yoga and mindfulness are powerful tools when supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing.”
