Home-cooking will be transformed for the families of Moorlands Schools Federation after the publication of the PTA’s Moorlands Meals cookbook.
The 100-book contains 80 recipes submitted by Moorlands pupils, families and staff, and contains ideas for everything from breakfast to tea time (and plenty of snacks in between). Moorlands Meals was inspired by kitchen supervisor Anna Thorne’s school dinners that are so popular with the pupils. In the book Anna shares her confidence-building approach to children’s meals, as well as offering advice on how to spark a love of food in children.
“I’d like them to try new food,” says Anna. “I tell them that they’re brave enough to have a little piece of something, because they love a dish that’s similar. I give them a little piece and put it on the edge of their plate. I let them look at it, try it, flip it around a bit, and if they like it, they’ll know for next time!”
As well as encouraging Moorlands families to try new meals and share their own favourites, the book will raise money for Moorlands PTA, to support projects around the school.
“Everyone at Moorlands has been so enthusiastic about creating Moorlands Meals,” says Julie Morton, PTA Chair. “It’s been a brilliant way to get people involved with school fundraising when so many of our in-person events have been put on hold. We’re really proud of the book – cooking for children can be such a challenge but the real-life recipes in this book are inspirational.”
