We pay a visit to a great new Christmas attraction in the gorgeous grounds of the American Museum

We might just have discovered a brand new family festive tradition. The Enchanted Garden of Light at the American Museum & Gardens in Bath is a wonderful new Christmas attraction that families of all ages will love.

Right from the start, the trail of lights cleverly makes the most of its impressive setting, using the huge trees and beautiful gardens, alongside an impressive range of specially designed attractions to bring this night time setting to life. We paid a visit with our youngest and his grandparents, and we all enjoyed the trail, including light tunnels, vivid colours projects onto the house itself, massive sculptures, powerful spotlights illuminating the night sky and even giant flowers and flickering glow worms emerging from the sloped lawns.

Taking in the house and gardens, throughout the trails are really well signposted, with guides to help you along the way and alternative routes for those who can handle steps and others who prefer not to. While the tunnel of lights is a real highlight – and just a perfect place for a photo opportunity – we also loved the spotlights into the night sky, with the drops of gentle rain only adding to the effect. Elsewhere garden candles gently played their glow over sculptured flower gardens, while seasonal colours projected onto the woodlands gave the trees a new grandeur.

Along the way there’s the chance to enjoy a mulled wine, mulled apple juice, hot chocolate or perhaps something stronger from the wonderfully quirky Morris Minor cocktail bar, all to a background of evocative sounds and music, plus aromas of the festive season. There’s also the chance to pick up a few Christmas gifts or treat yourself to churros and posh burgers.

The Enchanted Garden of Lights at the American Museum is a real triumph and a great way to enjoy an evening walk while also embracing the Christmas mood. It runs until 31 December, with more information and tickets available by clicking here
