This weekend was a momentous occasion for Royal High School Bath student Ruby Butterfield who made her official debut for the England U16’s Hockey team.
Year 10 student Ruby plays goalkeeper and was part of the Test Series team who took on the Scotland U16’s at Edinburgh University and won the first game 6-0 and the second game 8-2.
Ruby, who is also a member of the first team squad for TeamBath Buccaneers which is based at the University of Bath, said, “It was amazing to be playing for my country and singing the national anthem felt surreal. I was nervous beforehand, but the feeling soon wore off. It was such an amazing experience.”
Heidi Baber, Director of Sport at Royal High School Bath, added, “Congratulations Ruby on a fantastic debut! It is thoroughly deserved. Ruby has been working really hard in the gym and on the pitch to improve, and it has clearly paid off. We have no doubt this is just the first of many occasions when she will represent England at hockey and are thrilled to be celebrating her success with her and her family. It couldn’t happen to a more dedicated and deserving athlete.”
Royal High School Bath has a successful and thriving sports department with a number of students and staff having played sport at the highest level and hold regional, national and international representative honours.
