News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Sometimes it can be a lot easier than usual to talk the children into a family trip out. Explain that here’s one includes the chance to enjoy a range of frankly gorgeous desserts, along with colourful mocktails and stunning milkshakes, and chances are they’ll be piling into the car faster than after a promise of a weekend at Alton Towers…

The venue for this family trip out was Heavenly Desserts, a brand new dessert dining experience that has come to Bath promising ‘hand crafted artisans desserts’, which also means a wonderful array of gorgeous looking puds that had my lot stuck for choice and my wife and I pretty happy too!

Strawberries and cream cheesecake

Heavenly Desserts is on Lower Borough Walls in Bath, just along from Moss of Bath. The interior offers a choice of tables and booths perfect for couples, families and groups, and all within a nice and bright interior that my teenage daughter described as ‘trendy’. What’s more, the seats are super comfy, meaning that you really relax while making your choice of desserts, although the super efficient air con means that a jacket or jumper are recommended.

We visited barely a week after the official opening and already the tables were quickly filling, despite it being a Monday evening. With Pip the waitress being both welcoming and knowledgable, we were soon asking her recommendations from the impressively overwhelming menu – seriously, wow, what a choice!

I’m pretty sure that this was the first dessert menu that included its own starters, a choice of three chocolate shots (£6.95), all served in shot-style glasses with their own tiny ice cream waffle. OK, there was too much sauce for the tiny waffles but wow, the flavours were amazing! Just a great starting point.

Heavenly Desserts – perfect for a family treat

Chatting with Hassan, the extremely friendly manager, he explained that Heavenly Desserts in Bath has already become a very popular eatery for families and groups throughout the day. From 11am onwards, it’s a perfect place to call in for crepes and coffee, while the tables and booths make it ideal for families and parties. Certainly during our visit, there was a mixture of couples, groups of young adults and several families, all clearly enjoying their visit.

With the shots finished, we were keen to try the rest of the desserts, all prepared on the premises with the kitchen open for customers to see the team hard at work. And they clearly did great work because the desserts were just amazing! First up was the dark chocolate and pistachio Croffle (£7.60), a mixture between a waffle and a croissant, which my wife described as, “The most scrumptious thing I have ever tasted!” And after accepting the generous offer of a tiny square of the pud, I had to agree – amazing!

And the compliments kept coming… My youngest son’s I’ll Have What She’s Having crepe (£7.95), complete with fresh strawberries, warm Belgian milk chocolate sauce, strawberry syrup and gelato, was beautifully summed as as, “Scrumdiddliumptious.”

Best of all, the treats kept coming, with my older son’s What’s Fudge Got To Do With It warm chocolate fudge cake with milk chocolate sauce and vanilla gelato (£6.75) presenting a real depth of flavour without being too sweet, while my strawberries and cream cheesecake (£7.25) delivered a point perfect combination of soft cheesecake and crispy base.

Three macaron and a passion fruit martini

Did I mention the drinks? The passion fruit martinis (£4.10), red berry and yuzu smoothies (£4.35) and mango cream milkshakes (£5.30) added a touch of extra style and colour, with not a drop of alcohol in site.

OK, let’s be clear here – all of the diets and weight watching had to go clean out of the window for our visit to Heavenly Desserts, but it was so worth it. The tastes and flavours throughout are excellent, all really good quality and certainly not overly sweet, as has been the case with other dessert restaurants we’ve tried. Add in excellent service throughout and a comfortable, trendy setting, and this was a family meal out to remember for a long time.
