Hannah Morton, Head of RSHE at Royal High School Bath, has been awarded a Special Commendation in the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Awards 2022, thanks to her dedication and contribution to the students and school.
Organised by the Sex Education Forum, the awards celebrate excellence in teaching Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in England, an organisation that has helped support generations of educators and successfully lobbied for the introduction of compulsory relationships and sex education in England. The RSE awards take place every year to celebrate excellence in teaching and to shine a spotlight on educators who go the extra mile for their pupils and young people.
For two years, Hannah has been providing outstanding resources for RSHE education introducing essential and inspiring materials and lesson plans that align cohesively with current national curriculum requirements. Under Ms Morton’s leadership, Royal High School Bath has adopted a holistic approach to RSHE, fostering the values of respect and tolerance that make for healthy relationships and communities and ensuring it runs throughout every aspect of the curriculum and school life.
“I’m delighted to have received a commendation from RSE,” said Hannah. “Thanks to the organisation, the subject is now compulsory in schools in England. It’s essential as it gives young people the core skills and knowledge needed to form happy, healthy and fulfilling relationships. Inclusive, engaging and effective RSE lessons depend on the whole school community, staff, students and parents all acknowledging its importance and taking the opportunity to address and discuss it in lessons and conversations on a regular basis.”
