News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

A new series of classes to help improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of families is coming to Bath. The Calm Project was set up by Amy Harrison, a mum of four with a background in psychology and counselling, to encourage wellbeing throughout the family, starting from a young age.

“I have always been passionate about supporting families and improving mental health and wellbeing, but I also became interested in finding a way to help children learn techniques to manage their own wellbeing from a young age, so they can have better mental health in the future,” explained Amy. “This led me to carrying out a series of training programmes including Relax Kids and Baby Mindful, and I’m so happy to be now offering a range of classes supporting the wellbeing of mums, babies, children, adults and the elderly.

“The classes have had great feedback from parents who are finding they are helping their children, as well as mums who are enjoying the classes themselves. Among the response I’ve received from clients are –

‘The classes and 1:1s have made such a huge difference for A to recognise and process her feelings and emotions in a more positive way. She is definitely calmer and less anxious!’

‘Relax Kids club has helped my son no end. He’s gone from shy and nervous when starting the new school year to using techniques he’s learned to calm down and actually talk about his emotions! He LOVES this class and after each session asks if he can go again! Thank You Amy, I believe this class has truly helped him settle and become his usual happy self again.’

‘Such a lovely class… Definitely takes away a lot of anxieties being a first time Mum.’

‘Such a calming, relaxed and friendly class. Being a first time mum, I was a little anxious about joining baby groups, but I’m so glad this was the first one I joined as the welcoming environment put me at ease straight away.’

‘Amy’s baby classes are such a lovely way to spend time with my baby and chat with the other mums. The class is a nice mix of sensory play and singing for the babies and some relaxation exercises for parents. I would definitely recommend to any parent.’

The Calm Project currently run classes in Paulton, including –

  • Tuesdays – Relax Kids After School Club for children aged 4-12 years which involves children learning about their emotions and how to handle their emotions in a positive way through games, crafts, yoga, breathing exercises and meditation.
  • Wednesdays – Baby Mindful 9.30am for babies 0-6months and 10.30am for 6 months to 2.5year olds. These classes provide a sensory experience for babies but also focus largely on the wellbeing of mums, with mindful moments, breathing techniques and relaxations in amongst the activities for baby.
  • As well as regular classes, The Calm Project also visits schools and other settings, with Amy excited to announce there will be even more classes starting in other areas soon.
