News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The annual Walk of Life, asking hundreds of individuals to go the extra mile for patients at the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath, is set to take place on Saturday 20 May.

The Walk of Life offers a 26.2 mile and 10 mile option along the scenic Kennet & Avon canal. This year also marks the launch of the Walk of Fun, an accessible 1km option for children, parents and adults.

Walkers can choose to walk the full 26.2 miles from Bishops Canning near Devizes to Bath, or opt for the 10 mile route from Bradford on Avon to Bath. With a big communal lunchtime BBQ, regular Goodness stops and chance to chat on the way, whether you’re walking solo or as a group there are plenty of opportunities to get to know people in the community doing their bit to make a difference.

The Walk of Fun is for all walks of life. Hosted in Bradford on Avon, this fully accessible, shorter 1km option is suitable for prams, wheelchairs, shoes and more.

Karlie Evans, Events and Community Manager, RUHX, said, “We are really excited to bring back the Walk of Life for the 18th time. Every year hundreds of supporters take to the canal to show their support for the RUH, and this year we hope the introduction of our Walk of Fun will allow anyone from any walk of life to take part.”

The Walk of Life was started in 2005 by Vanessa Kyte, who sadly passed away in 2007 seven years after being diagnosed with breast cancer, which developed into secondary lung cancer and brain tumours. Her passion for fundraising sparked her and her sister Nicola to begin the Walk of Life, and it has developed and grown ever since into the beautiful celebration that it is today with thousands of walkers stepping out for an incredible cause.

RUHX is asking those taking part to raise a minimum of £100, which will enable our charity to go further, to give every patient extra extraordinary care they deserve, while supporting our staff to do what they do best and furthering innovation within our hospitals.
