News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The Bath Comedy Festival has announced an exciting programme of performances, workshops and events just for children and young people aged three years and upwards.

With the main festival set to take place from 26 March – 16 April 2023, there will be lots of laughs to be had in the Bath Comedy Festival’s new creative kids’ programme, including performance workshops, a cartoon competition and three brilliant, affordable, family-friendly comedy shows for all ages to enjoy during the Easter holidays!

Junior Jokers is supported by the Roper Family Charitable Trust and organised by the Bath Institute of Laughter, a Making Theatre Gaining Skills project. The first event is a cartoon drawing competition for children aged 7 – 11 years to encourage talented young artists from across Bath to tell funny stories in a visual way. Developed with the kind support of celebrated cartoonist Harry Venning, the best entries will be exhibited at the Commercial Hub in New Bond Street, Bath during the Easter holidays and prizes awarded at a special event on 29 March.

There are two more opportunities for young people to participate: Mojo Moves, an hilarious silent disco workshop led by Frome-based company Rare Species, and a one-day street theatre workshop with the Natural Theatre Company.

The Extraordinary Time-Travelling Adventures of Baron Munchausen

The three shows programmed during the holidays at the Widcombe Social Club will have their young audiences totally engaged (and laughing!): Babble is a playful treat for 3-5 year olds, The Extraordinary Time-Travelling Adventures of Baron Munchausen will be perfect for 6 – 12 year olds and Dr Who fans should be sure not to miss Any Suggestions, Doctor?

Programmed by former Edinburgh Fringe Director Hilary Strong, and Ralph Oswick, Junior Jokers offers great Easter holiday opportunities for fun as well as introducing new audiences to live comedy. Nick Steel, Comedy Festival Director said, “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to programme this fantastic programme of events and look forward to welcoming younger audiences to the Festival!”
