News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Great Western Academy in Tadpole Garden Village, Swindon, has just received a glowing first Ofsted report.

The Academy, which opened in 2018, has been graded as ‘Good’ in all categories after the visit of an inspection team in January this year. The high aspirations of the school were praised throughout the report, with the ‘ambitious and broad’ curriculum seen as a very positive feature.

Students are ‘respectful and friendly’ and ‘understand staff want them to do well’. The Sixth Form was also praised with the report saying that the teaching at the Academy ‘encourages Sixth Form students to think deeply’.

Graham Davis, Principal, said, “We are very proud of the hugely positive comments throughout our first Ofsted report. We have waited a long time for this but see it as a strong affirmation of the Academy’s exceptional work since we opened, particularly around the impressive opportunities we offer students through our extended curriculum.

“We hope that parents of our students will read the report and be proud of the fact their children attend GWA. It is the combined efforts of staff, students and parents that make the school such a success and I’m delighted the report makes this clear.”

Great Western Academy benefits from having had a Sixth Form since 2019, providing continuity of learning from age 11 to 18. The Sixth Form is open to all local students, no matter where they have previously studied, and there is a fantastic track record of success in terms of productive destinations for all, including prestigious apprenticeships and university places, such as three successful Oxbridge applicants. It’s not too late to apply for a place for September 2023!
