The spotlight will be placed on unpaid carers as Melksham hosts a special festival this June.
People who are unpaid carers are invited to drop into a Carers festival on Friday 9 June which will be held at Melksham Assembly Hall and Market Place between 4-7pm.
There will be a range of activities and local charities, and organisations will have stands at the event and free refreshments will be available. There will be craft activities, a performance by Grandma and the Lion at 4.45pm, free health checks and general information supporting all who look after someone else.
Carers Week is a national awareness week held each year, which takes place on 5-11 June. It highlights the work and support for the millions of unpaid carers in the UK.
Unpaid carers are people who care for and support friends and family members who may have a disability or illness, enabling them to live life as fully and independently as possible.
The event in Melksham has been organised and funded by Wiltshire Council’s Melksham Area Board and is supported by Carer Support Wiltshire and Celebrating Age. The range of activities are suitable for all ages.
In addition, Carer Support Wiltshire is hosting an event especially for younger families, at Melksham Community Campus, with a bouncy castle, inflatable disco, refreshments and a goodie bag for young carers. Carers can book onto this free event by calling 0800 181 4118 or emailing email hidden; JavaScript is required.
