News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

At the end of June, Year 5 children at St Saviour’s Junior School in Bath spent the day exploring the River Mells. They got to see some of the processes they have been learning about in Geography first-hand, such as erosion and deposition, and were supported by staff from the Earth Science Centre.

The children had fun measuring the depth and width river, racing dog biscuits to test the speed of the water and even found a crayfish!

Olivia said, “It was really fun going in the river looking for animals and finding a crayfish because I had never seen one before. It looked like plain water but there were so many creatures in there.”

Tristen said, “It was straight up awesome! My favourite part was searching for creatures in the brook and identifying them!”

Eilidh added, “It was really fun, I really enjoyed measuring the depth of the river, but I don’t think anyone left without wet feet!”
