News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Wondering what to do over the Easter break to keep the kids occupied?

The REME Museum in Lyneham, Wiltshire, has a whole range of activities to get stuck into throughout the Easter holidays the whole family will enjoy!

For the first week (Monday 1 April to Sunday 7 April) enjoy arts and crafts based activities in the historic galleries, surrounded by exciting recovery vehicles and artefacts. These will be self-guided drop-in activites, so no need to book in advance unless you wish to!

In the second week of the holidays, get hands on Meccano construction sets to engineer your own vehicle, equipment and more (Tuesday 9 and Friday 12 April). ‘Meccano Makes’ sessions last about two hours with each family working as a team, and should be booked in advance as space is limited. Tickets can be purchased online and include Museum entry.

Or, if you’d prefer, build a Bottle Rocket and see how high you can make it fly (10 April, 10:00 – 16:00, and Thursday 11 April, 10:00 – 12:00)! These are drop-in sessions, so just turn up during your visit!

Both workshop sessions are led by our Education Officer in our dedicated Education Suite.

About the REME Museum

The REME Museum exists to tell the story of the Corps of The Royal Electrical and Mehanical Engineers. Formed in October 1942, wherever you find the British Army, there you will find REME. Whether it’s maintaining a helicopter, repairing a missile launcher or recovering a broken-down tank, REME will be on-hand, ensuring the Army is always ready for action.

Discover the people, equipment and stories behind the uniform at the REME Museum. Located just outside MOD Lyneham in Wiltshire, the Museum features modern, interactive displays from rare World War Two vehicles to a tiny toothbrush made by a REME prisoner of war.

The Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30 to 16:30. Remember to make time for a break at Crown’s Café. Visit our website at www.rememuseum.org.uk to plan your trip.
