News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Lawn Manor Academy in Swindon has raised over £549 for Comic Relief thanks to fundraising through a non-school uniform day and bake sale.

Pupils were encouraged to wear something red for Comic Relief in return for a donation to the charity.  To raise more money, staff also brought in cakes to sell and games were held at lunchtime, including an energetic game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Hoop, where teams had to jump along a hoop track to meet their opponent when they would duel one another with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Marek Koza, Assistant Headteacher at Lawn Manor Academy, said, “We’re very pleased to have raised £549.49 for Comic Relief this year. The majority of this money was donated by our pupils and their families in return for wearing something red to school and everyone, including staff, got into the fundraising spirit for the day.

“The cake sale sold out in less than 10 minutes and Rock, Paper, Scissors, Hoop was a resounding success, with players and spectators adding to the fundraising total too.

“As a charity that works to alleviate poverty and to help disadvantaged people across the UK as well as the whole world, Comic Relief is a cause that our pupils can connect to. It has given us lots of opportunity to talk about their work in class and in our tutor time, so that we can give pupils a broader understanding of the local and global issues.”
