Children at Moorlands Schools Federation in Bath were treated to a thrilling experience when a Royal Navy Wildcat Helicopter came to land at school.
The school was enormously grateful to a member of the parental community, who is a Royal Navy pilot and not only organised the visit with one of the teachers but also flew the helicopter on to the school site. The visit took place as part of the EYFS children’s theme this term of ‘Heroes’.
“It was a thrill to see how excited the children were about this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Louisa Sellars, Executive Headteacher. “We were warned that it would be windy and noisy but the excitement far outweighed any worries about this!”
The children from the two EYFS classes had the opportunity to get up close to look at the helicopter and even had the chance to sit in the cockpit and wear the pilots’ helmets. The rest of the school were invited to watch the helicopter land, shut down, start up and take off.
“We’re ever so lucky and grateful to have a parental community who are willing to share their experiences and inspire the children with their different careers,” added Miss Sellars.
