News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Bath-based charity, I Can & I Am, is offering competitors of all standards the opportunity to benefit from the positivity of taking on a challenge and to raise money to go towards the running costs of its wellbeing buses which visit schools within Somerset and Wiltshire.

The I Can & I Am Triathlon-4-All will take place on Saturday 11 May and will consist of cycling, kayaking and running, with each event being tailored by the participant to suit their ability. Each event will start and end at the Dundas Aquaduct in Bath, BA2 7JD, and participants from aged 14 and over are welcome but must be competent cyclists and be able to swim.

Every year, hundreds of pupils and staff benefit from attending workshops on board the I Can & I Am buses which visit state primary and secondary schools and offer a unique combination of pizza making with wellbeing workshops where simple, effective and universally applicable tools to help maintain self-belief are introduced. All visits by the buses are delivered free of charge.

The I Can & I Am Triathlon-4-All will consist of –

  • BIKE: The event begins with a cycle ride on the Two Tunnels cycle path in Bath and then out towards Bristol on the Bristol Bath Railway path. You can select your return distance – 20km or 40km, or simply turn back when you’ve had enough!
  • KAYAK: Participants will then reconvene at the Dundas Aquaduct for lunch (we ask everyone to bring their own) before embarking on the kayak adventure. You will have a choice of joining a four person kayak or going solo. No previous experience is required for this event and you can pick your distance as you head off East on the canal towards the Avoncliffe Aquaduct and back. Any nervous oars-people will be matched with more confident boat going folk who can show the way.
  • RUN / WALK:  The event conclues with a run or walk in the other direction along the canal towards Bath. You are welcome to enjoy a return distance of either a 3km, 5km or 10km run, or a simple stroll.

The day will begin at 8.30am and events will finish by 5.30pm. Following the event, anyone taking part is invited to join an evening meal and drinks near the city centre where there will some words from James Shone and the chance to celebrate the achievements of the day.

There is a participation fee of £35 per person for over 18s which can simply be paid by card or cash on the day.
