Term 6 is looking to be an exciting time at Westbury Leigh C of E Primary School in Wiltshire, with new beginnings to look forward to and fond farewells too!
“Over the coming weeks we start to welcome our new intake of students into Early Years Foundation Stage,” said Mrs Towler EYFS Lead. “We aim to do the very best we can to make children and parents welcome, and to make the transition from home to school and from Nursey to Reception as easy as possible.
“We engage children from the very start in a creative curriculum that is tailored to their needs and reflects the context and community in which they live. At all times we seek to inspire children with a love of learning and thirst for knowledge that will remain with them throughout their lives.
“We strive to create a safe, welcoming and engaging learning environment where children become confident to try new activities and communicate to new peers and adults. We support and nurture children in their learning, we celebrate mistakes and praise resilience and children who ‘have a go!’ We are a friendly and supportive team, who are dedicated in developing and enthusing children to learn.”
Mrs Towler added that the school has been able to update and re-fresh its outdoor learning area with :
- A construction area to help build core strength and build on active learning.
- A stage to encourage creative and imaginative play.
- Two fabulous mud kitchens that ensure that we can engage in messy play all year round.
- A spacious water area where we encourage sorting, counting, developing hand eye co- ordination and an early start in learning about volumes and capacity.
Fond farewells
“Year 6 recently finished SATs we are so proud of them, they showed amazing resilience and embraced every assessment they faced with determination and commitment,” said Mrs Towler, EYFS Lead. “They really enjoyed their well-earned ice-cream to celebrate the end of SATs – a big thank you FoWLS for funding this special treat.
“Term 6 is full of trips and projects to broaden and bring the curriculum to life. There are practical experiences such as fossil hunting, samba drumming and further work around good citizenship, as well as a practice for their end of year production of Aladdin and, of course, we celebrate their Westbury Leigh journey with a party and final assembly in their last week with us.”
“The final term of the year is always very busy with the school community coming together to welcome our new starters as well as bidding a fond farewell to the Year 6 cohort many of whom have been with us since Reception,” added Mrs Grimsey, Headteacher. “As we reflect on what has been an inspiring year, we remember the aspirations we had when the year first unfolded and celebrate the achievements we have made through hard work, positive attitude and strong team working.
“We all love being part of the Westbury Leigh Family and our children definitely ‘aspire not to have more but to be more’ and live this out in the leadership contributions to our school and wider community.”
