Ten more Wiltshire schools have recently gained Wiltshire Healthy Schools accreditation for encouraging healthy lifestyles and promoting wellbeing.
Wiltshire Healthy Schools is a Wiltshire Council programme designed to effectively address the health and wellbeing of children and young people. Using the whole school approach and teaching Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, schools can build on previous developments to actively promote learning and healthy lifestyle choices. The support provided aims to build the capacity of schools to deliver effective and sustainable interventions for all children.
The ten schools have all submitted evidence to a local multi-agency group, describing their school provision and the difference that their work has made to the heath related outcomes for pupils. Several of the schools achieving the award were also visited by Wiltshire Youth Councillors who also provided their feedback on the schools.
Schools can apply for accreditation at three levels: bronze, silver or gold, starting with bronze level. Currently 131 schools are taking part in the programme, with 80 awarded accreditation at either bronze, silver or gold level.
The ten schools that have gained accreditation this term are:
- Fitzmaurice Primary School – gold award
- Royal Wootton Bassett Academy – silver award
- St John’s CofE Primary School, Tisbury – silver award
- Urchfont Primary School – silver award
- Akrotiri School, Cyprus – bronze award
- Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls CofE Primary School – bronze award
- Oare Primary School – bronze award
- Pewsey Primary School – bronze award
- St Osmund’s Primary School – bronze award
- Sambourne CE VC Primary School – bronze award
In addition to the Wiltshire based schools, Akrotiri School, one of the MOD schools in Cyprus, has also used the Wiltshire Healthy Schools programme and gained Wiltshire Healthy Schools accreditation.
