News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Pupils at Stonar School in Atworth, Wiltshire, were thrilled to host author Liz Flanagan for a visit this week, with the writer sharing her passion for storytelling and the inspiration behind her captivating book, Wildsmith.

Liz led the children in Years 4, 5 & 6 in a workshop where they were encouraged to think creatively and develop their own stories. She then guided the pupils through the steps of character creation and setting development, encouraging them to draw from their own lives for inspiration.

Kylie Flecchia, Year 5 teacher at Stonar, said, “It was lovely to see the children becoming more and more excited about their stories as they developed their ideas. My favourite moment was hearing Liz’s answer when one of the children asked her what made her decide to be an author. Liz spoke about an inspiring Year 4 teacher who had encouraged her to write. The excitement in the room from some of the children as they realised they could start right now was truly wonderful.”
