The Bath Preservation Trust is offering a wonderful range of artistic experiences and workshops across Bath at No1 Royal Crescent, the Herschel Museum and the Museum of Bath Architecture.
No.1 Royal Crescent
Create a portrait study using oil paint (adults)

6 February
During the oil painting class we’ll create a small oil study working from a part of a face. You will work from your own photograph so feel free to bring some along on a screen or printed out. You will learn how to mix oil paint and build layers of paint in an alla prima (wet-on-wet) style. Please bring apron or old shirt to wear over clothes. All materials included. No experience of oil painting necessary.

Half term family fun: Crazy Collage Portraits

Indian Block Printing (adults)

15 July
Learn about the traditional craft of block printing in the inspiring setting of Number 1 Royal Crescent Bath. Using a wide selection of blocks you will print a bag or tea towel discovering repeat patterns and exploring colour and design. Artist Clare Walsh will guide you through the process, teaching techniques and explaining the relevance to Georgian Fashion.

Herschel Museum
Lunar New Year Planetarium Show

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the night sky as we explore the legends and traditions of this festival, and discover what stars and planets you can see in the sky tonight. After the show, join in with family craft activities and make a new year decoration to take home.
The planetarium shows are being held as part of the Lunar New Year celebration, organised by the Museum of East Asian Art and the Herschel Museum of Astronomy. The planetarium show will last approximately 40 minutes. Please allow an hour so you can enjoy the crafts as well.

Scale Model Making

12 April
Create your own Georgian doorway façade, modelled on Bath’s famous Paragon with model maker and artist Jess Wright. The two hour workshop will explore the methods and techniques used by model makers to create your own unique 1:20 scale doorway. All materials included. No experience necessary. Tea and coffee will be available.
This will be a very relaxed workshop, suitable for all abilities with support and guidance to achieve a beautiful model to take home and display.

Printing with Leaves

11 May
Enjoy a day Printing with Leaves in this historic Bath venue. You will learn how to choose suitable leaves for printing and how to prepare them to print with using a heat press. We will prepare the leaves and backgrounds in the morning and after lunch print beautiful and often surprising designs onto fabric. Artist Clare Walsh will guide you through the process, teaching techniques and explaining the relevance to Georgian Design.
