ReMind carer support and information days for families affected by dementia

ReMind

This month local charity, ReMind UK, are holding two Carers Information Days to help families affected by dementia connect and find out about the support available across Bath and North-East Somerset.

Local people, who care for someone with dementia, are invited to attend half day Carers Information Days at Chilcompton Sports on 18th March and on 28th March at local hospice, Dorothy House, in Winsley. Other Carers Information Days are available across Bath and surrounding areas.

ReMind UK run these free, half-day information sessions for carers throughout the year to help them gain a better understanding of dementia, think about future planning and find out about local support services. The aim is to reduce isolation and confusion and promote connection and access to resources.

ReMind UK specialises in research into dementia treatments, memory assessment and diagnosis services and post diagnosis support for local families affected by dementia. The charity also offers support for carers to introduce them to helpful services and advice such as Carers Information days and wellbeing events on advanced care planning or strategies to cope with dementia.

Remind UK recently launched a free, advice guide called, A Guide to Living Well with Dementia, which can be downloaded at Guide to living well with dementia – ReMind UK

ReMind UK partners with local organisations to deliver their Carers Information days such as Stone King solicitors and the Carers Centre, as well as inviting guest speakers with lived experience. Those presenting might share useful legal advice for carers, tips and advice on caring as well as providing information on local services and support in Bath and North East Somerset.

Martyn Creeth, from Bath, whose wife is supported by ReMind UK, said, “The support my wife, Sarah, and I have had from the team at ReMind UK since her dementia diagnosis has really helped us adapt and thrive. As well as using their expert memory service, we have also taken part in some of their courses and events and I have attended their Carers Information Day and carers workshops which are full of useful information and very reassuring.”

Melissa Hillier, Chief Executive Officer for ReMind UK, added, “We support over a thousand people each year through diagnosis and treatment, research, events and courses to learn and connect, and through providing useful resources for carers and those with a diagnosis.

“Over 1.1 million people in the UK are predicted to have dementia in the next five years and sadly many local families are affected by this cruel condition, so it is vital that carers have support and information available to them when a loved one is diagnosed and throughout their dementia journey.”
