Radstock pupils step into history with Visit to House of Lords and London Tour

St marys visit to london 16 sept 25 (1)

Year 6 pupils from St Mary’s Church of England Primary School and Nursery in Writhlington, Radstock took their learning beyond the classroom with an inspiring visit to London and the House of Lords this week.

The visit formed part of the class’s curriculum on British democracy, history and citizenship, giving students a first-hand look at how laws are made and the history behind the UK’s political system. During their time at the House of Lords, pupils were guided through the historic chamber and even got the chance to ask questions about the role of the Lords in shaping the nation.

Following the visit, the class took a guided walking tour through the heart of Westminster, passing Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Downing Street and St James’s Park, ending their journey at the gates of Buckingham Palace. Along the way, pupils were given insight into the rich history, architecture, and symbolic importance of each site.

Miss Clark, Year 6 teacher, said, “This trip was an unforgettable experience for our pupils. It brought their learning to life and gave them a real sense of the history and heritage that shapes our country.”

Pupils returned inspired and full of questions about democracy, leadership, and how they can make a difference in the world around them.

The visit was supported by Parliament’s Education Service, and is part of the school’s wider focus on developing active citizenship and historical understanding.
