Mini Athletics is returning to Bath this autumn, offering energetic and imaginative sessions designed to get children moving, laughing and learning. We caught up with the new franchise owner, Michael Pope, to find out more about what families can expect.
Hi Michael, it’s great to hear that Mini Athletics is coming back to Bath. What do the lessons offer?
Absolutely, at Mini Athletics we give children the opportunity to do what they love doing most – running fast, jumping high and throwing far – all wrapped up in imaginative themes and lots of fun.

What age range of children do you cater for?
We have four different age groups.
– Our Teeny Athletes are from walking to 2 years old.
– Our Diddee Athletes are from 2 to 3½ years.
– Our Little Athletes are from 3½ to 5.
– And our Mini Athletes are from 5 to 7 years old.

What sport skills are covered in your sessions?
At Mini Athletics we help children develop physical literacy by focusing on the four main athletic movements – running, jumping, throwing and catching.
And what do the children take away from the sessions?
They develop physical confidence as well as vital social skills such as turn-taking, teamwork and making friends – all while having a fantastic time.

Do children need to be sports fans to take part?
Not at all. They simply need to enjoy moving their bodies and giving it a go!
Where did the idea for themed lessons come from?
We know that children have the best imaginations, so by giving them the chance to play with the same equipment in a variety of themed ways, they can create endless worlds of fun and creativity.
What do you enjoy most about leading the sessions?
I’m passionate about giving children the chance to grow in every way. I love seeing the smiles on their faces, the confidence in their movements and the new relationships they build as they enjoy themselves each week.

Can parents and carers get involved too?
Absolutely! There are often opportunities for grown ups to join in. It’s wonderful to see those special moments that they share with their children, who are always delighted to include them in the fun.
You also run birthday parties. How do these work for families?
Parents can contact me directly by email or phone to discuss what they’d like. Every party can be tailored to the child’s interests in terms of themes and structure, and we’re flexible about venues too.
Finally, when and where will the new sessions take place?
I can’t wait to bring Mini Athletics to Bath on Saturday mornings and look forward to seeing all the children and their grown ups very soon!
