Local homelessness charity Julian House is encouraging families, friends and community groups to brave one night outdoors at the Big Bath Sleep-Out, returning to Alice Park on Friday 6 March.
The fundraising event asks participants to wrap up warm and spend a night sleeping outside to raise awareness of homelessness in Bath. While the experience cannot replicate the reality facing those who must sleep rough night after night, the charity says the show of solidarity makes a vital difference.

The Sleep-Out first began in 2009 and returns after a year’s break. It costs £10 for adults to take part – which includes a hot breakfast the following morning – while children under 16 can join for free, making it a family-friendly way to support a major local cause.
Organisers say groups of friends, sports clubs, work teams and families return year after year, with some children as young as four safely joining their adults for what has become a memorable night under the stars.
Rachel Avent, from Julian House said, “No-one is under any illusion that spending one cold night in Alice Park could possibly come close to the stark reality of being homeless and sleeping on the streets. People taking part in the Big Bath Sleep-Out may get cold and wet, however, the next morning those taking part can go home, and catch up on lost sleep.

“The significant difference for people who are forced to sleep rough is that they do not have that option and no idea when their struggles will end.”
Supporting vital services across Bath
Money raised at the Sleep-Out helps Julian House continue its work supporting people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless across Bath and the wider region.
This support has never been more important. Julian House says rising demand, higher operating costs and recent funding cuts have put pressure on key services. The charity has already made difficult decisions, including closing its Bike Workshop social enterprise on Corn Street in October.
Last year alone, more than 2,000 people received life-changing support from Julian House projects across the South West. With its future funding uncertain, the charity is urging the public to rally behind the Sleep-Out and help safeguard its services.
