72 year 5 girls recently descended on the Royal High School in Bath to take part in a Harry Potter workshop, as well as a David Walliam’s inspired creative dance workshop.
With 19 primary schools represented from as far as Devizes, Salisbury, Bristol and South Gloucestershire, as well as Bath, the aim of the workshops were to encourage girls to try a new subject outside of their usual curriculum, alongside forging friendships along the way.
The Royal High’s Director of Outreach, Mrs Sheffield, explained, “There are very few opportunities for primary pupils to experience a senior school environment prior to the typical year 6 transition process, and if girls can learn important socialisation skills a little younger, then they are likely to settle into senior school with ease. We feel that we are providing a unique opportunity combining academic opportunity alongside confidence-building.”
The next outreach workshop at the Royal High School is on Saturday 24 March, a Science Detectives opportunity for Year 5 girls to solve a mystery using specialist facilities with the school’s science teachers. For further information please contact email hidden; JavaScript is required
