The Prior Park Schools Biathlon took place on Friday 5 October at the University of Bath. Prior Park runs this event in conjunction with Pentathlon GB. It allows 450 competitors from over 25 schools to compete at the elite athlete facilities at the university’s Sports Training Village.
Categories range from U10 years to U19 years, and competitors amass points through their run and swim times. The times achieved at the event will be put onto the rankings list for both the British Modern Biathlon Championships and the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships – the top athletes are then invited to compete at the Championships Finals.
As added inspiration for the day, Prior Park was delighted to have World Pentathlon Champion Jamie Cooke (with his Gold medal) and Olympian Joe Choong to help at the event and encourage each competitor.
Principal of Prior Park Schools, Mr James Murphy-O’Connor, commented, “At Prior Park we have a philosophy of ‘sport for all’ and so we are delighted to be able to run this Biathlon and provide 450 young athletes with this fantastic opportunity. I would like to thank Kate Allenby, who organises the event with Pentathlon GB, plus our dedicated sports teachers, sports leaders and volunteers who work so hard on the day to bring this event to life.”
Competitors can check their times and standings by visiting the Pentathlon GB website.
