The pupils, staff and families of Batheaston Church School have raised an amazing £2,600 as a result of its annual Race For Life event to help families affected by cancer.
The event took place one sunny afternoon back in June, when 200 hundred children from the school set off down to the Rhymes Pavilion, where they were treated to an enjoyable warm-up of Zumba, with plenty of happy faces as the children jumped around, trying to keep in time to the music. Lots of families came out to support the event and with many children dressed in pink, the races began. Year 6 helped run alongside the children in the Reception class before completing their own race at the very end.
Headteacher, Sally Jefferies, commented, “It was a lovely event and wonderful to see such a good turn out from our parents. To see the older children helping and encouraging the younger children to keep running was amazing and is typical of the culture we encourage in school. Cancer affects so many of us and we are proud that our children did their best to complete as many laps as possible in the name of a worthwhile cause.”
The school set up a just giving page and encouraged friends and family to donate what they could. Organiser of the event, Jenny Enstone, had set the school a target of £1,500 to try and match what had been raised in previous years, but the school was delighted when a few weeks later, it was revealed that it had raised a staggering £2,600 – an amazing sum raised by the dedicated and passionate children of Batheaston Church School.
