Wow, huge congratulations to the Biker Boys of Marshfield Primary School who have completed their challenge of riding 302 miles in under 24 hours, raising an incredible £3,422 for the children’s ward at the Royal United Hospital in Bath in the process!
The Biker Boys – Alfie, Bertie, Harry, Luke, Finlay and Angus – are year four classmates at Marshfield Primary School in Wiltshire – and were inspired to take on their challenge by a 10-year-old fundraiser on BBC’s Children In Need, who had cycled the same distance. Whilst watching, Alfie Goodliffe turned to his mum, Gemma, to ask if she could help see if his friends would like to join him in a sponsored team cycle ride. The other five quickly took up the challenge.
The Children’s Ward at the RUH was chosen to benefit as this is where Gemma works as a paediatric doctor, and all of the boys had visited at some point – either to receive treatment themselves or to support a sibling who was unwell. Originally planned pre-pandemic in 2020, the cycle was postponed but the boys didn’t lose enthusiasm and were even more motivated after what’s been a particularly testing time for the NHS.
The boys will now go into the children’s ward and hand over their money and receive a certificate.
‘It was really fun but did get tough at times,” said Alfie. “I’m really proud of my friends and me for raising lots of money for the children’s ward at the RUH.”
“It felt tiring but really good!” added Luke Clark. “It was so fun biking with my friends and I feel proud.”
“A huge, heartfelt thank you and well done to The Biker Boys for raising an incredible £3,422 for the RUH Children’s Ward and completing their 300 mile charity challenge in under just 24 hours,” said Laura Cherry, Events and Community Coordinator at The Forever Friends Appeal. “You are all absolutely amazing!
“The fantastic amount the boys have raised for the hospital will make a real difference by helping to pay for specialist play equipment for patients, allowing our staff to continue to go above and beyond to provide care.”
