The REME Museum at MOD Lyneham near Chippenham has now reopened to the public and has announced a great month of family-friendly events and activities. Expect to find brand new floors throughout our galleries which display vehicles, equipment and artefacts telling the story of REME’s role in the British Army since its formation in 1942.
Upcoming Events
Saturday 1 October is REME’s 80th Birthday
Celebrations will include displays of historic and current military vehicles, opportunities to interact with soldiers and veterans, and live performances from Lyneham Military Wives Choir!
Saturday 8 October Sci-Fi Day
A week later witness the multiple worlds of Sci-Fi come to life at the Museum’s Sci Fi Day! Featuring memorabilia from the worlds of Star Wars, Dr Who, Red Dwarf, Farscape and more, with ‘real life’ Cybermen, Daleks and others. Plus, a host of guest celebrities to meet. Fans of Sci-Fi and cosplay are invited to attend and encouraged to dress as their favourite characters or in their most ‘out of this world’ outfit.
Saturday 15 October Model Show
Guaranteed to appeal to enthusiasts and anyone with passing interest alike, the ‘Military and Transport’ themed model show is supported by the museum’s own collection of models, as well as displays from model clubs across the country and a number of trade stands.
25 and 27 October Half term family activities
Families can join in with Half Term Activities! On Tuesday 25th and Thursday 27th October, the museum will be running its highly requested LEGO Engineering workshops and our miniature assault course, supervised by serving REME soldiers. Booking your session in advance is encouraged for LEGO Engineering, but is not required for the assault course, just turn up!
What’s more, there’s a refreshed reception and shop area offers to meet all your souvenir and REME merchandise needs, including the previously unpublished diary of Major ‘Roy’ Homard, who was the first serving soldier to complete a coast-to-coast surface crossing of Antarctica via the South Pole.
Crowns Café has also been upgraded with a new floor, offering a welcoming atmosphere while you enjoy barista-style drinks, hot food, sandwiches and sweet treats.
