Congratulations to Beatrice from Year 2 at Kingswood School in Bath, who has recently competed in Ireland at both the World Irish Dance Association Annual International Grade Feis where she placed third and then last Saturday where she competed in the World Championships and was awarded fourth place U8 World Champion!
Beatrice performed in front of a 2,000 strong audience and five judges watching her every step. It was her first time competing at the Worlds and there was tough competition, with children travelling as far away as Australia, Hong Kong and America.
Just over two years ago Beatrice started to learn to dance and she started competing just 14 months ago. She is the current ‘All Ireland Under 8 Champion’, ‘The British Under 8 Champion’ and the ‘Scottish Under 8 Champion’, and now – fourth in the world.
“We are so very proud of Beatrice and her achievements,” mum Marie-Louise said. “She has a level of dedication and commitment that is seldom seen in a seven year old. She trains three times a week as well as practising at home (and school!) every day.
“Her Irish Dance teachers are so supportive and encouraging, and they challenge her and allow her to run with it. She is in a class with girls and boys that are more than twice her age because she has the skill, the maturity and the passion to learn and develop.”
It is her greatest wish to be in Riverdance one day, and this summer she has been one of 30 children across the globe selected to attend the Riverdance Summer School in Dublin, taught by the cast of Riverdance themselves! This is an incredible opportunity and a testament to her commitment and dedication. All of the Kingswood Community is right behind Beatrice and wish her the best of luck!
