The gardening club at The Meadows Primary School in Bitton is celebrating after winning the best school garden award at the Bitton in Bloom awards.
The gardening club started in the Spring with four pupils from Year 4, Daisy Stone, Cara Waller, Lettie Thomas and Eliza Steer, working together to plant vegetables, strawberries and flowers in their break time. The school also held a ‘reuse, reuse and recycle’ planter competition in which Daisy used her old broken scooter to display flowers.
The club’s hard work was recognised by the Bitton Parish who felt they had the best display and harvest, while also thinking about the wider environment.
Commenting on the work of the club, Daisy said, “I enjoyed seeing the flowers and vegetables grow, and of course eating them! It was a bonus to win an award.”
Mr Edwards, the head teacher, added, “We are very proud of their hard work and commitment to growing a range of plants and ongoing sustainability. They have inspired the younger year groups to take up gardening. It is great to see so many pupils at The Meadows enthusiastic about gardening.”
