News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Over 50 Trowbridge businesses, organisations and charities will be taking part in the Trowbridge Flower Festival by creating floral window displays to coincide with national Great Big Green Week from 8th – 16th June, to bring colour, nature and increased footfall to Wiltshire’s county town.

The Flower Festival will feature colourful window displays, floral sculptures, planters and a series of flower-related events and other eco-activities throughout the summer months and beyond.

There will be colourful tea party, circus and lion-themed floral displays, seed bomb and paper flower making activities, gardening for wildlife talks and other flower-themed events. Flower Festival trail maps will be available to download for residents and visitors of all ages to follow on a fun floral safari around the 50+ Trowbridge locations from Saturday 8th June.

Competition 

Each of the Flower Festival businesses will display a number alongside their window displays. The challenge is to add up all the numbers and email the total to email hidden; JavaScript is required  All correct entries will go into a draw to win prizes including family cinema tickets at the Parade House Screening Room, a children’s gardening set and flower pot filled with chocolate donated by Asda.

Prizes 

Flower Festival judging will take place on Saturday 8th June. The best window displays will win silver cups and a £100 voucher kindly donated by Trowbridge Garden Centre. Judges include Trowbridge Chamber Chair Kez Garner, Vice-Chair and former Trowbridge in Bloom organiser Jennifer Polledri, the Mayor of Trowbridge Cllr Stephen Cooper and the Manager of Trowbridge Garden Centre, Chris Wilde.

Events 

The main Flower Festival will run from 8th – 16th June with further flower-related activities and displays continuing throughout the summer including:

8th June

  • Launch of Trowbridge Flower Festival trail – maps will be available to download from the Trowbridge Chamber event website.
  • Trowbridge Weavers Market – Trowbridge Eco and Flower Festival stands featuring seed bombs, horticultural trail activities, grow your own pumpkins, Flower Festival trail maps.
  • Textile Garden open day (Union Street) and a mini-trail quiz around town centre planting locations (mini-trail maps available at the Textile Garden & Flower Festival stall at the Weavers Market).
  • Pimms & cream tea in the Parade House English garden in Fore Street (1100-1700) with floral installations and live music (wear floral clothes!).
  • Open studio day at SILT in St George’s Works Mews from 12pm – 5pm. See floral related work and ecological image-making research facilities for ink-making, eco-photography & textiles.
  • Trowbridge Library – flower and garden-themed story time and craft sessions at 11am. Create paper flowers to take home and make a flower to add to the library vase to create a community bouquet.

8th – 16th June

  • A week-long trail around the Trowbridge Garden Centre with a ‘gardening with wildlife in mind’ theme.
  • Trowbridge Library – pop in and create a paper flower to add to the community flower bouquet display.

10th June

  • Trowbridge Garden Centre – children’s flower activity (4pm-5.30pm). 
    Talk and demonstration on ‘Gardening with wildlife in mind’ – 6.30pm-7.30pm plus late night shopping until 8pm and evening meals in the café.

15th June

  • Funky Flowers children’s paper flower-making workshop at Trowbridge Museum (Suitable for ages 5+) 1100-1500. Free.

  • Start of the Trowbridge Chamber pumpkin trail + trail maps leading to creative pumpkin displays across the town centre.
