A family breakfast at the 3 Cafe & Kitchen unveils a real gem, complete with free parking, free wifi and an outdoor seating area
I might well just have had the best smoked salmon and scrambled eggs in Bath! And judging by the empty plates from the rest of my family, they were pretty happy with their breakfasts too.
We had decided to treat ourselves to breakfast out – after all, it is the summer holidays… We’d heard good things from friends about the 3 Cafe & Kitchen at Three Ways School, just along the road from the Sainsbury’s in Combe Down, Bath, so thought we’d give it a go.
The first impressions were good. With a free car park – yes, a free car park in Bath! – we were there early and had the choice of seating in this light and modern building, complete with tables and very comfy chairs, high stools to a raised eating area and even an outdoors seating area. The cafe is open from 8-10am for breakfasts, and lunches from 12am-2pm. No, the range of meals available isn’t that big, but you shouldn’t struggle to find something that will suit your needs, and the cakes and cheese scones on show looked gorgeous – very tempting for an mid-morning tea and a treat.
Our children all went for a bacon sandwich (£2.75) and hot chocolate (£1.75) each, while their mum chose scrambled egg and bacon on toast (£4.50) and I preferred smoked salmon and scrambled egg on toast (£6.95).
The cafe was developed by Three Ways School as a great resource to help support their pupils develop some of the workplace skills that they’ll need to find employment. It’s also a great place for local companies and organisations looking for space for meetings social events, with free wifi available and easy access, as well as birthday parties and social gatherings, both inside and in the outside area.
Our food soon arrived and it was quite excellent. While the portions were perfect, the food was prepared and presented to as a high a standard as a basic breakfast could be. Best of all, it tasted wonderful, with a cup of coffee for Ellen and a cup of tea for me to round off the whole experience perfectly.
While we enjoyed our meal, several other customers arrived, many of whom were clearly regulars, some enjoying a meal, others clearly looking to make the most of an early morning coffee with friends.
Our family, meanwhile, made short work of our meals, while chatting about the day to come in a relaxed and family-friendly setting.
Can we recommend the 3 Cafe & Kitchen? Absolutely. Will we be back? Undoubtedly. And when we do, those cheese scones and gorgeous looking cakes may well be on the menu…
